We're on the lookout for a Community Manager - Los Angeles, CA (freelance) to join our team.

The role

We are looking to hire a Community Manager (Freelance) in California who will lead the daily social channel management for a major athletic and lifestyle brand in the upcoming months (arguably the biggest brand out there). The ideal candidate for this position has had hands-on experience with managing social channels with large followings, responding and engaging on channels, and daily posting. It’s also important that the candidate has a strong passion for staying up-to-date on the new cultural trends, and is adept at identifying new opportunities for inserting brands into cultural trends or moments. The position will require 30-40 hours of work per week, with some work potentially required on weekends and holidays.

We’d like to know that you can:

  • Manage and plan content uploads to the brand’s social channels each week (primarily Instagram and Twitter). Organic social only.
  • Lead community management for the brand’s social channels, and have the ability to own the brand’s voice, and drive conversation with followers.
  • Participate in and understand youth culture—especially in California right now.
  • Identify unique and interesting opportunities for storytelling, and know how to capture it to create thumb-stopping content, while staying on-brand.
  • Manage your own time. Some days will have more hours than others but we expect to need 30-40 hours per week for the tasks required.
  • Collaborate with a group of talented creatives and strategists.
  • Participate in client communication and meetings.

The right candidate should also have:

  • 2-4 years of client-facing social media experience, specifically managing a brand’s handle across social platforms. Agency experience would be ideal. 
  • A true passion for social media, bringing your own approach and POV. 
  • Mastery of the native features and functions of all major social platforms, especially Instagram and Twitter.

  • Ability to work part time as an employee of the agency. May involve some weekend and holiday availability for posting.

  • Ideally a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Mass Communications, Journalism, or a relevant field.
  • Ingrained and involved in youth culture and California culture.
  • Passion for California sports and a curiosity to dig deeper into what's up-and-coming or on the come-up in Los Angeles.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, plus a self-starter, problem solver mentality.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (specifically consumer facing copy for social channels).
  • Direct experience in the following media types:
      • Twitter
      • Instagram
      • YouTube
      • Facebook
      • TikTok
      • Snapchat
  • Ability to identify and track relevant social data and KPIs (what's trending, what’s performing well, or not, and social-first concepts) and work with Kettle’s strategy team to pull insights from social behaviors and data.


  • Experience with analysis of data and reporting from social action to generate insights and optimization recommendation for social content and channel.
